Authentic Transformation
I’d like to get real about something that’s been on my heart. I have concern about our children growing up with these new societal norms that encourage women to artificially enhance their appearance through a variety of procedures ranging in severity.
Many young women are rushing out to get Botox, lip fillers, and other procedures as soon as they turn 18. The media and social media have certainly played their part in creating the illusion that having large lips, breasts, and perfect skin is essential for one to “be enough” and to feel worthy.
But not just for young women, for any woman. We’ve been led to believe our worth comes through our external appearance. I understand the desire to look good, but at what expense? When is this taking things too far?
The sad thing is, all these enhancements leave most feeling as unworthy as they started, because the feelings of self-worth or lack reside deep within. Many then look for the next enhancement to mask the pain. The only lasting remedy I know of is to do the work within to accept and love oneself. Then, the need for external validation ceases, which is truly liberating.
Men are often accepted and appreciated for their salt and pepper hair, deeming them distinguished looking. Man or woman, it is attractive to know who you, are regardless of hair color and a few or many lines and wrinkles. The wisdom that comes with aging is attractive and well-earned. Self-assured and whole people are truly magnetic.
Simple and real self-care can accomplish that healthy glow many long for, at any age and stage, from the inside-out. This can be accomplished through what we put in our bodies, onto our skin, how we think, feel, and connect. There is nothing more beautiful than radiating peace, love, and joy from the heart.
We’ve each been given the choice to make our own decisions. However, I long for the day when people are connected to their souls and make choices from their highest selves rather than from ego. These norms have been created by those who profit from our disconnection to the inherent perfection and beauty that we truly are.
It is my hope we each understand that we are equally worthy and divine in our being. This is the realization that through our mere existence, we were perfectly created for our unique experiences and purpose.
As a woman who has only ever had two facials; has never had eyebrows waxed; and has never had an enhancement procedure, where we have ended up seems absurd. Light makeup and partial hair color, dyed to my natural color, is as far as I’ve gone.
Two years ago, I made the decision, while at the age of 55, to stop coloring my hair and allow it to grow naturally. The interesting thing is my hair is now healthier than it has been in years. I am embracing the gray and silver hairs that are growing out and the transition is nearly complete.
After over twenty-five years of deep inner-work, I continue to evolve in my authenticity and coloring my hair no longer resonates. I refuse to succumb to a beauty standard that considers only young women with certain features to be beautiful. It’s been my belief that beauty comes from within the heart and radiates out. There is a reason we each have our God given features, and I don’t believe our source gets it wrong. We are not always pleased with what we got, but our outer appearance can present opportunities and experiences for personal growth.
I see you, beautiful soul! The love and light within you is so stunning that it would amaze and astound you! Are you ready to peel back the layers to see what’s really underneath, and to shine so brilliantly that you don’t need anything outside yourself to feel worthy and lovable beyond your wildest dreams?! Let’s do this, naturally and healthfully!
